Small batch & full of stories

Born in Berry with a generous splash of Scottish heritage
Auld School is a signature, classic dry gin, smooth tasting with tones of elderberry, juniper and light citrus. Made in very small batches at the Old School House at Eleven Eighty.
As for its tasting notes, you’ll have to take the words of the Berry locals as the best indication.

The origins of Auld School Gin
Auld is Scottish for Old and it’s in recognition of the founders of Berry, Alexander and David Berry who hailed from Fife in Scotland. It’s also a nod to our very own Scottish Richard ‘Don’t let lack of experience or knowledge get in the way of a good idea’ Mills.
School is a bow to Eleven Eighty’s heritage. Now an iconic, heritage-listed property in the Shoalhaven wine country on the NSW South Coast, and a unique venue for weddings, events and corporate retreats, plus a gin distillery – the address began its life back in 1861 as the very first school of the area.
Auld School represents the classic nature of this very traditional ‘old school’ gin recipe.
Gin represents a very interesting find! Scottish born Alexander Berry is known as the explorer, who in 1822 established the first European settlement on the South Coast of NSW. What is not widely known is that in 1808, Merchant Berry boarded ‘The City of Edinburgh’ for Australia with a wide variety of provisions to sell. However, after encountering storm damage on route, he was forced to stop in Tasmania where he had to sell most of his cargo. When he arrived in Sydney, he only had one thing left on board to trade… his gin!
So would you believe, Alexander Berry, the namesake and founder of our very own local community, built his empire in Australia off the back of selling spirits?
