Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve curated answers to common questions below. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for below, please give us a call.

Accommodation

Can you stay on the property?

Yes, when you are having a wedding, you have the option to book Eleven Eighty for a stay of 3 days, 2 nights.

How many people does the property sleep?

15 people can sleep onsite. The original 4-bedroom School Masters house sleeps 9-10 people. The cottage has 2 bedrooms and can sleep 6 people.

Are there other accommodation options?

The NSW South Coast has many accommodation offerings in Shoalhaven Heads (5 mins drive) and Berry (10 mins drive). Once we understand the type of accommodation you are seeking for your guests (large groups, luxury bed and breakfast, individual rooms in boutique hotels), we can point you in the right direction.

What is the configuration of the bedrooms?

School Masters House: 3 queen rooms, 1 room with 3 single beds. We suggest the upstairs room for the bride and groom.
Cottage: 1 queen room and 1 room with 2 sets of bunk beds.

Can we have an early check in / late check out?

Check in is at 12pm and check out is at 11am.  Whilst there are no guarantees, we will try to offer flexibility on these times where we can.  However, the turnover, cleaning and gardening requirements for this property are extensive, so we have to leave ourselves plenty of time to ensure it is ready at a high standard for our next guests.

Weddings

What is included?

Eleven Eighty is a DIY wedding venue. However, we have striven to offer our couples the best of both worlds:  That is top class inclusions, to take the stress out of your planning with  creative control still left in your hands.

Our Gold Package includes accommodation across two properties:  The School Masters House and the Cottage.  You have access to all event space areas including the School Hall, the Barn (including Bar and Prep Kitchen) and the purpose built entertainment courtyard (including our bespoke, clear roof marquee) . You also have full access to our prop shed including velvet lounges, peacock chairs, signs and much  more.  Beautiful long wooden tables, chairs, PA system, glassware, crockery and cutlery are all included.

You have complete creative control over your day through organising your own caterer, decorations, set up etc. We can recommend trustworthy suppliers. More information on our “friends of the venue” will be made available to you on booking.

For further information on all of our packages, please get in touch.

What is the maximum amount of people?

We are approved by Shoalhaven Council to hold events throughout the entire year for up to 80 people.

Is your venue BYO food and alcohol? If so, do you charge a “corkage” fee

Yes we are BYO as we are not a licensed venue. Guests and their contractors are responsible for service of alcohol and we charge no corkage fee.

Is there a cool room?

There is an onsite cool room. In addition there are fridges in both the School Masters House and the Cottage and an outdoor bath perfect for filling with ice and bottles. There should be no need to hire in additional refrigeration.

Are marquees allowed?

As part of your wedding package you have full access to our bespoke, clear roof, courtyard marquee.

Do we have access to the train carriage? Does it form part of the function space?

The train carriage is a fun, historical addition to the property. Think of it as the coolest of garden ornaments!

It is currently set up as a dressing area for the bridal party       (salon and makeup chairs) (the photos are immense!)

It does not officially form part of the function package for a number of reasons:

  1. It is set away from our function courtyard (with strong acoustic capability)
  2. It is located close to a neighbour.
  3. Due to its early 20Century origins it does not provide the necessary disability access required to be classed as a viable function space.
Are there any parking restrictions?

We have a max of 20 car parking space located close to the function centre. There is additional parking for 3 cars near the main residence. There can be absolutely no parking outside of the grounds on Bolong Road (major safety issues). For functions above 30 people, you will need to provide a bus service for most of your guests. We have partnered with the Berry Bus Company who will design a tailored transport plan for you, picking up and dropping your guests to or close to their accommodation.

Is the site accessible?

The function space including The Barn, The School Hall and the Courtyard has full disabled access.

Re the Accommodation: The School Masters House has 2 steps up to the house and is on 2 levels (but there are 3 bedrooms on the ground floor). The Cottage is raised and has 4 steps up to the front door. The train carriage does not have disabled access and has 8 steps up to it.

Is there an Eleven Eighty representative onsite?

Yes. It forms part of our consent with Shoalhaven Council to have a member of the Eleven Eighty team acting as site manager on the day of your function. The function manager will be on site on the day of your function from 9am until 12. They will be “on duty” for a 24-hour period around your wedding. The role of the Site Manger is twofold:

  1. To ensure that the terms and conditions of hiring Eleven Eighty for a function are upheld: noise constraints, conduct, rubbish removal etc
  2. To ensure that the day runs smoothly for you. Eleven Eighty is a heritage listed property. What comes with age are “some quirks” and it will give you peace of mind to have a member of our staff in the background should any unforeseen circumstances arise
  3. The Site Manager is not there to “run” your wedding. Should you want an independent person to run your day to ensure things run smoothly, we can put you in touch with some fantastic local event managers from our local supplier list.
  4. The Site Manager’s presence is not negotiable and forms part of our consent to hold with Shoalhaven Council. The Site Manager’s day rate forms part of your hire fee.
Are tables and chairs included?

Long wooden tables and black chairs, plates, cutlery and glassware for up to 80 people are provided for your wedding reception. However, if you have a particular style in mind, you are welcome to hire in.

We are hoping to have a cocktail style wedding instead of a sit down. Is that possible?

Yes it’s completely up to you how you want to run your day.

What are your food/drink packages?

Again it’s DIY so completely up to you how you would like to serve. We can put you in touch with some amazing local catering companies.

Is the venue pet friendly?

Yes we allow well behaved pets to stay and be part of your special day. However, we do ask that they are not allowed on any furniture including the beds. Failure to comply may affect your bond.

Is there a food preparation area?

Yes we have a purpose built food preparation kitchen in the Barn adjacent to the bar and access to the courtyard should you wish to bring in a food truck.

What are the winter specials?

We off a 10% discount on packages through the winter months (May - August).  Check out our blog on why not to discount a winter wedding.

What is the option in the event of rain or bad weather?

We have a number of wet weather options for you depending on numbers of guests:

The Old School Hall is a great wet weather option for a ceremony and/or a seated dinner for up to 50 guests.  The Barn is the perfect intimate space for a small gathering of up to 20 people.   The bespoke courtyard marquee provides cover for up to 80 people seated.

Do we have access to the function space (School Hall, Courtyard, The Barn) for set up on from check in?

Yes you will have access to the full property from check in – a little closer to the date we confirm what time, but standard check in is 12pm.

What about my suppliers – when do they need to remove their gear?

Generally speaking, third party contractors must have everything removed by the time of your checkout.

What is the size of the Courtyard?

The whole courtyard measures 400m2.

The Eleven Eighty Marquee measures 9m by 9m

What is the size of the School Hall?

65m2 (11.3x5.7)

Do we have to clean up afterwards?

Whilst you do not need commercial cleaners, generally, the property should be left in a tidy state ie, in the condition that it was handed to you. Failure to do so will affect your cleaning bond.

Can we inspect the property?

Yes private appointments are available.  There are strictly no walk-ins allowed.

Do you have open days?

We generally host at least one open day, in collaboration with local suppliers each year. In addition, we open up the venue for a whole weekend in August as part of the South Coast Wedding Trail.  Please inquire as to our next open day dates.

What does it cost?

For our full break down of pricing, inclusions and terms and conditions, please contact startyourstory@eleveneighty.com.au

Are there discounts for mid-week weddings or micro weddings?

Yes we offer a discounted rate for mid week weddings.

We also have specific package options for micro weddings (sub 35 guests)

Mid-week weddings are hosted during the week and typically run with check in on a Tuesday afternoon, event on the Wednesday and check out on the Thursday morning.

For full break down of pricing, inclusions and terms and conditions please contact startyourstory@eleveneighty.com.au

What is the rough timeline on receiving the bond back post event?

Bond is taken on a credit card on check in.  Things that will affect your bond include not leaving the property as you found it, missing items, broken items, excess of rubbish.  Once the property has been checked, your bond will be returned within 7 days of your event.

Testimonials

We just had the most magical wedding here – 10/10 venue!!! We cannot speak more highly of our experience! Amazing hosts and team, with exceptional attention to detail. There are so many incredible places for photos (but also the photos don’t do it justice!) and the whole ambience really contributed to our wedding. It was amazing being able to stay at the property for the weekend. We absolutely loved it and could not recommend it more!

Jess D

The unique venue catered for our family requirements and beyond with many personalised details. Every part of the venue was utilised from the train carriage, the on-site accomodation, through to the beautifully decorated bar and iconic tree swing.

Our wedding getaway consisted of 3 days and 2 nights surrounded with loved ones onsite. We enjoyed great company, good food, fun lawn games, and created many wonderful memories. The venue was perfect for our needs. It was kid and dog friendly, spacious, clean, offered many entertainment spaces, and felt like a home away from our home.

We cannot thank Reanah enough for her support and recommendations. We are so grateful to have engaged such talented vendors who went out of their way to make our day special, thank you so much!

Stacey and I highly recommend Eleven Eighty.

Eleven Eighty has to be the best venue on the south coast for a funky lux wedding or to be honest, any event that you need to be seriously special. The place is like a treasure trove filed with beautiful thoughtfully curated objects and super styled so that every different area is truly unique. There are so many gorgeous settings all just perfectly put together. The vintage train carriage blew me away.

We fell in love with Eleven Eighty because it’s a super unique venue. We knew we wanted something a little less traditional with a cool, relaxed party vibe and felt that Eleven Eighty really delivered on this. We especially love the courtyard and alfresco dining aspect of the venue and the rustic vibe of the bar.

Grounds of Alexandria meets Soho House meets Alice in Wonderland…… Wow! How did we not know about this place? So incredibly beautiful with hidden treasures and unexpected plot twists around every corner. Riddled with character, old world charm and modern luxury, I really can’t think of an event space that has as much wow factor as this did.
