Our Story
From humble beginnings the next chapter awaits
A new beginning
A celebrated restoration
We’re extremely proud of our 1180 Bolong Road restoration. Longing for a creative project after leaving our corporate lives, and wanting to contribute to our beautiful Shoalhaven community, we knew this address deserved something special. A new lease on life. It’s now a landmark destination celebrating the region, where vows are made, memorable stories written and where a fine local boutique gin has found its feet.
Established 1861
Steeped in history
The address has considerable historical importance to the local Shoalhaven region. It was originally established by David Berry in 1861 to cater for the children of the workers of the Coolangatta Estate. By the 1930s it was a school for the families from Shoalhaven Heads. For much of its life, the school was run incredibly by one dedicated teacher who resided in the School Masters House built in 1868. Another chapter saw the address become a Pottery and Arts Centre for the community in the 70s and 80s (with infamous tea and scones in the Old Train Carriage). Both the School Masters House and The Old School Hall made it on to the prestigious New South Wales heritage list in 1985.
A unique event space
Full of intriguing features
Eleven Eighty is unconventional – a tapestry of gorgeous historic charm that we’ve painstakingly restored and revived so it can be enjoyed for many decades to come by the local community and beyond. The Old School Hall lives and breathes as a rustic and romantic dining and event space, and the heritage-listed School Masters House a unique accommodation experience. The picturesque Courtyard and lawn are divine to soak up the surrounding nature. Eleven Eighty is truly a magical space to savour the moment and honour the occasion.
